WINNING WOMEN: Primary Election Wrap

Tuesday’s primaries could be called the day of the woman.  Female candidates in much watched races came out on top.

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina won California’s primary for U.S. Senate, setting up a general election battle this fall with three-term Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer. Likewise, Meg Whitman, former eBay CEO, easily won the race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination against former Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown.

Another woman, Nikki Haley, edged victorious in South Carolina’s gubernatorial primary. This was a highly publicized race for Haley, who pushed herself as a conservative, pro-family candidate.  After an endorsement by Sarah Palin, and subsequent allegations of sexual promiscuity, she managed to weather it all.

Arkansas’ Democratic Senator Blanche Lincoln overcame the anti-incumbent wave to claim victory over labor-supported and fellow Democrat Lt. Gov. Bill Halter.

In Nevada Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is breathing a sigh of relief today after Republicans chose a Tea Partier to challenge him for the general election in November. Sharron Angle beat the more mainstream Sue Lowden 40 to 26 percent. Reid plans to challenge her by emphasizing what many view as extreme conservative views.

MOMism: “You go girl!”  We MAMAS tell our little girls that they can be anything that they want to be when they grow up. Yesterday, we had proof.  OMAMAS….we may soon be able to call one of our daughters….Madame President.

I cannot and will not support Sarah Palin based on gender.. and that would be the only reason to back her. She has proved time and again she is not competent to serve as president or any other high elected or appointed position. She should return to the private sector where she has to prove her abilities and she is not living off the public.
