- WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER: Tax Rates At Random
-
Our tax rates are all over the board. We think we have the tax brackets dialed in, but we don't really know what anyone else is paying Uncle Sam these days. It seems kind of random, like we're paying what we're supposed to, but everyone knows some secret to paying less?! We have progressive tax system in the United States, so we know we pay anywhere from 10% to 35% depending on our income level (the more you make, the more you are supposed to contribute back).
So, why is it that some Corporations are paying ZERO taxes? How come some multi-millionaires are paying 15% or less? How can people/corporations stash money overseas and cheat the system entirely? How come some Federal employees don't pay their taxes, while we pay their salaries with ours? It's crazy!
What's your number MAMA - do you think you're paying your fair share? Do you think everyone else is? Who do you think should pay more? Or, should we all be paying less? Oh, and do you think Corporations are people? Just asking...
MOMism: "Nothing is for sure, except death and taxes."

My husband makes in the 100K range and says he pays nearly a third of that in taxes. We have enough to live on, as we are not extravagant people. But it really gripes me, not what percentage we pay, but what the über-rich DON'T pay. Some people say it's just the middle class being JEALOUS, but it's not. It's about fairness. Does it really matter where their money comes from? Did they WORK for it? Did they invest wisely? Income is income, and they should be paying the same rate as everyone else.on 01/24/12Reply
- I absolutely agree with you!!! We are in the top tax bracket and NO ONE likes paying taxes, but it's what our taxes are used for that we need to start paying attention to. We are paying less taxes now, but our country is going broke because at the same time we gave tax cuts we increased our spending on the wars and the expansion of entitlements, etc. It's craziness. We need to start investing in the future of our country. We need the tax revenue to invest in JOBS JOBS JOBS and job training and pay down our deficits in a fair and balanced way. That will help businesses and families thrive.on 01/25/12Reply
- I've heard a lot of people complain about taxes. Yet they want to be protected (military, etc), want good roads and safe bridges, clean water, and on and on. People without children, or whose children are grown complain about paying taxes for schools. Yet they want to be served in stores by people who can count out their change (so do I!). I don't complain about taxes except for 2 things: 1) The part of the sales tax that we are still paying for a stadium (that has already been torn down); and 2) Unfairness in the tax codes. And then the rich call it a "penalty" if they have to pay at the same rate as others.on 01/25/12Reply
