"What Goes Around, Comes Around" : An Opinionated Mom's Perspective on KARMA

It’s a new year and another opportunity for a fresh start.  If you believe in Karma, which is the Buddhist law of moral causation, a belief that "what goes around, comes around," then how about seizing the opportunity that comes “once in a blue moon” to get some good Karma going?

The great thing about new beginnings is that they can take whatever form you chose.   I remember hearing about the butterfly effect and what a profound impact it had on my thinking at the time.  The idea behind this principle of physics is...

TV HERO: Kid Learns CPR On Tube

Too much TV isn’t all bad, apparently, because 9-year-old Tristin Saghin says that’s where he learned to do CPR.  Tristin used the life saving skills he learned on TV to save his 2-year old sister’s life.  The children’s mother found the little girl floating in their grandmother’s swimming pool, and pulled her out.  Tristin immediately ran to her and gave her CPR until she started breathing again.   Our hero said of his baby sister, “she’s really beautiful and I love her very much.”

MOMism: Every second counts.  MAMAs know that anything can happen in a split second and in an emergency every single second counts! So, who knew that a few minutes in front of the tube could actually be time well spent?  Kids are sponges and they soak in the good as well as the bad...hats off to Tristin, not only for spending time watching an educational program and learning what to do, but for staying calm enough to actually do it!  That said, first of all, MAMAs should make sure that our eyes are on our babies - especially around water - so that our other babies don’t have to give them CPR.   There were two drownings in the Mesa Arizona area in two days, prior to the Saghin’s accident.  MAMAs can’t take our eyes off our little ones for even a moment when they can’t swim!

But, a little first aid training for MAMAs (and babysitters) and kiddos doesn’t hurt!  Make sure your family has a first aid kit and other emergency equipment like a flashlight and fire extinguisher at the ready-just in case.  Also make sure that your babies know how to dial 911. It’s important to know what to do, and how to act quickly when those seconds are ticking away…just ask Tristin!
