TRASH TALK: Dr. Laura Makes Apology For Using "N" Word

Dr. Laura Schlessinger made a public apology in response to her on-air “N” word rant last week.  Dr Laura used the “N” word 11 times during an on-air conversation with a caller Schlessinger described as “hypersensitive” to race.  Dr. Laura wrote on her website that she was using the “N” word to make a philosophical point; that the use of the word is judged differently depending on who is using it.  Speculation continues regarding the reaction of her sponsors.

MOMism: “Do you want to get your mouth washed out with soap?”  O-MAMAs always remind their KID-Os that their are consequences to using bad words.  There are certain things that should never come out of their mouths.  Period.  It doesn't matter if they hear someone else using the bad word, or not.  They know better...and they will get in big, fat trouble for having a potty mouth.

Dr. Laura should know better than to go there. People call in seeking her professional advice. She is supposed to be elevating the bar and setting higher expectations of dignity, respect and wisdom.  After her rant, in which she used the derogatory “N” word in its entirety, she claimed that she was simply trying to prove a point - that black rappers and comedians use the word all the time, and are not held to the same standard as a white person. Rappers and comedians say a lot of things to get a reaction out of their audiences...they swear, they insult, they poke fun, they do whatever it takes to elicit a response...and Dr. Laura's racially charged comments have proven that the same standard certainly does apply - trash talk elevates ratings.  Talk radio can be a dirty business.  What are your opinions MAMAS???  Should Dr. Laura be held to a higher standard than rappers and comedians?

Ridiculous censorship, and nothing racist about it. Unless you want to force black people to stop using the word as well, EVERYONE should have the SAME FREEDOM OF SPEECH and be allowed the same vocabulary. It is nothing by BS hypocrisy for blacks to throw around the word nigger the way they do and then try to censor it from the vocabulary of everyone else. And it was A BLACK that called me a "nigger bitch". Kinda gives you an idea why I fight back against their racist hypocrisy, knowing it for what it is, and won't cow tow to it like the sheeple.

I do think Dr. Laura should be held to a higher standard than rappers or comedians. She GIVES advice. People turn to her when they have problems. Comedians and rappers are entertainers. It's terrible that there are different standards for different occupations when it comes to "dirty" language, but she chose this profession. She chose to be an advice columnist. She chose to be in a profession that is well known to have higher standards for politcal correctness. She should be held accountable for her poor language choice.

I absolutely agree. We teach our kids that there are words that you just don't use. Period. There are some things that are derogatory and some that are just nasty. The "N" word is both. Grown ups know better...especially a woman that should have more sense?!
