- Top 10 Political MAMAs of 2010

Photo alexanderstoyanov O-MAMA is here to celebrate each other as women and moms. So, as everyone else makes lists of the top this and that, we have made a list of the TOP 10 Political MAMAs for 2010. To recognize the women who are influencing our politics and our country. Each of them has made a name for themselves as an Opinionated MAMA, that's for sure. We toast each and every one of them for the lessons they've taught us this year!
1) First Lady Michelle Obama has taught us that “behind every good man is a great woman.” This "Mom in Chief" is smart, supportive, fashionable and a champion for military families and children’s health. This MAMA knows how to throw her weight around for the good of our country.
2) Governor Sarah Palin has taught us that whoever you are, wherever you come from, you can “climb every mountain.” This conservative Republican woman has changed the face of politics with her homespun charm and love of the outdoors. She has written books, starred in her own reality tv show, tweets like nobody's business and continues to keep the country guessing on whether or not she'll move her PACK to D.C.
3) Hillary Clinton has taught us that "the world is our oyster." The Secretary of the State braved some tough moments as First Lady, but showed us that she is smart enough, tenacious enough and tough enough to succeed as an international leader. She has opened up diplomacy and helped change the way the world sees our country again. Inside that tough shell is a pearl of wisdom.
4) Nancy Pelosi taught us that "where there is a will, there is a way." Regardless of your politics, you have to admit this gal gets it done. From stimulus packages, to healthcare (yeah, we should all read it now that it’s passed?!@#! ), financial reform, fair pay act, college loan programs, DADT and START, oh my! She has a heck of a list of her own.
5) Christine O'Donnell taught us that "witches are people, too.“ This doll from Delaware brought a lot of attention and some magic to the primaries by casting a spell on the establishment GOP. She turned out not to be a witch, otherwise, she would have had a winning potion for voters in the mid-terms. But, she did open our eyes to all sorts of scary prospects in politics.
6) Cindy McCain has taught us that we should "speak our own minds." Cindy has beauty and brains. She is the wife of Senator John McCain, and has both toed the party line and taken her own stand in support of gay rights. Like mother, like daughter? This philanthropic, beer mogul has raised a big brood, including her smart, fiesty daughter, Meghan, that has a mind of her own, too!
7) Shirley Sherrod has taught us that it is important to "get the whole story." A right-wing blogger took Shirley's comments out of context and catapulted her into the headlines. This lifelong advocate for the poor deserves an accurate script that honors her courage and commitment to her community and country. After being wrongly canned, she wrote her own ending by telling the FDA to take their job and shove it!
8) Tina Fey has taught us that "it's o.k. to laugh at ourselves." This comedienne/writer/actress/producer/mother makes us all laugh. She won the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Award for humor by taking the political circus and putting it in the center ring. This super smart funny lady knows that politics really is the greatest show on earth.
9) Patti Patton-Bader has taught us that "there are angels on earth.” Patti combined her love of country and motherhood to create Soldiers Angels, where anyone can "adopt" a deployed soldier and send them love (and goodies) from home. We salute this patriotic MAMA and thank her for giving us our wings, too.
10) Maria Shriver has taught us "never go to bed mad.” She’s a Kennedy, and a lifelong Democrat, married to the GOP’s California “Governator," but she has managed to have civil kitchen table talk and keep her union strong. Now, that's what we call bi-partisanship!
Thanks MAMAs for the laughs, inspiration and lessons to teach our KID-Os. You have made your mark on our country and we have learned something from you!

First of all, HILARIOUS. Second of all, I didn't know it was "toe the line" either! Always thought it was "tow the line." I guess we do learn something new every day. Thanks MAMAS!on 12/29/10Reply

I love it! My husband also thought it was great that you hadn't spelled it "toad"! LOL! In your defense - apparently there are a lot of people unfamiliar with the correct usage of "toe the line"! So as usual - you Mamas are in good company! Happy New Year!on 12/27/10Reply

Oops! You should proofread your work. Cindy McCain could not have "towed" the line, but she might have "toed" it: The primary connotation of toe the line is “To adhere to rules or doctrines conscientiously; conform” (American Heritage), “To conform to a rule or standard” (Oxford).(from Wikipedia). However, it is not likely that you can accurately characterize her as toeing her party line and supporting gay rights as her party does not support gay rights. Nice try. As for Maria "I'll use my cellphone any way I choose despite California laws to the contrary" Shriver - how is she bi-partisan? If you consider her verbal support of her Republican Governor hubby and her outright demonstration of her disregard for the law to be bi-partisan, you may need to give it a second look. That's Democrat Kennedy character all the way!on 12/27/10Reply
- Thanks for the catch MAMA - at least we didn't spell it "toad." (-: For the record, we're just 2 mamas doing the best we can in between playing Santa and making Christmas dinner for 24! Hanging on by our jingle bells. Hope you are having a great holiday season.on 12/27/10Reply
