Shirley Sherrod has told the USDA that she will not return to work there, even though they offered to reinstate her. MOMism: “You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear." Our kids need to understand that sometimes a situation can't be changed...what is done is done...and they can't take it back. They can apologize, they can try to make amends, but sometimes we cannot turn something ugly into something else...it just isn't going to happen.
In this case, Mrs. Sherrod could have tried to turn the situation around, but she is just one woman and the issues of race in our country have to be addressed by all of us. We will never be able to change what has been done...the sow's ear will always be a sow's ear...but, we can look for the caterpillars that can make silk...and only then will we be able to make a silk purse. When we work on that, we will also see an amazing transformation in our country...as the caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly
