- SNEEKY PEEK: NY Times Gets Classified Document
-
A seven page, classified, directive, a copy of which was viewed by the New York Times, authorizes sending American Special Operations troops to the Middle East, Central Asia and the Horn of Africa. The directive, signed by General Petraeus in September, also permits the clandestine troops, foreign businesspeople and others to gather intelligence about terror organizations and emerging groups planning attacks against the United States. The document is not clear about precise operations and what the military has done with respect to the directive thus far, nor does it detail continuing missions or intelligence-gathering. According to the The New York Times, spokesmen for the White House and Pentagon declined to comment about the document for their article.
MOMism: “We have eyes in the back of our heads.” Moms need to keep an eye on things, and sometimes we have to do it on the sly. “Intelligence gathering” happens in our homes all of the time. To protect our home, America, the intelligence community needs to have eyes in the back of its head, too. Right? The bigger question is...why was this confidential info leaked? Hmmmm? MAMAS, what are your opinions?

I would be curious about who the "foreign business people" and the "others" are, that are collecting information, and for what reason. Historically, this type of trust of covert operations have sometimes, proven to be misplaced, and in favor of corporate powers with vested interests in the region, as opposed to the local population. Look at the enormous amounts of deaths of civilians in these regions. while I think that this type of thing "may" work in "our homes" I'm not so sure our "neighbors" would like us "gathering intelligence in theirs. Its complicated for sure.on 05/27/10Reply

Some things the media should not report on. America's safety should be of the utmost importance, therefore our media outlets should let some things remain in the dark!on 05/26/10Reply
