- REBELS IN ROBES: Women Priests On The Rise
-
Photo Pascal Shirley for Time Magazine According to a Time Magazine article, the Vatican opposes the ordination of female priests because supposedly Jesus didn't have any female Apostles. However, there are more than 100 women in the U.S. and abroad who consider themselves priests. The Catholic Church has dubbed female priesthood as a grave crime, just like pedophilia. That response has brought the issue out of the dark. There are 80 Catholic women who are ordained Womanpriests in the U.S. who can legally perform marriage ceremonies, say Mass in homes or Protestant churches and most have advanced religious degrees. The dean of psychology at UC Santa Barbara, who is a Catholic, says the “women tend to bring a different tenor and perspective that governments and corporations have benefited from and which the priesthood now needs to include.”
MOMism:”We're not living in the dark ages.” Women can do anything they set their minds to…we can vote, work and generally enjoy a level playing field with men. Our girls need not fear the patriarchal restrictions of the past. Because of the women who have fought for our rights, we have more opportunities than ever.
The Catholic Church is one of the last holdouts. Women, though, are a formidable force of nature with an important perspective. When we get our minds set, watch out! Now, we are taking on the Vatican..no small task, but come on it's 2010. You go girls!!!
