Spring is in the air.  The birds and the bees are flitting around doing their thing…nature abounds.  The birds are feathering their nests and laying their eggs, while the bees are busy pollinating every flower in the garden.  The air is crisp and clean.  Chirping and buzzing fills the air.

Everything seems fresh and new.  So, let’s take a new look at Spring, shall we? The first thing that comes to mind is cleaning. Ugggh.  But, let's talk about the birds and the bees instead...the part of the story that happens...

RACY WHITE HOUSE: Dowd's Opinion On WH Race Relations

Conservative New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd wrote a provocative Op-ED piece on race relations in the White House, citing the irony of having a black president who lacks a connection with central African-American culture.  She points out that the administration continues to trip over race instead of embracing it, citing the Sherrod situation as the most recent evidence.

According to Dowd, clumsy handling of race is par for the course in Obama’s White House, many claiming that the president needs some advisers or friends who have a better understanding of issues facing the African-American community. A top Democratic official claimed, “Who knew that the first black president would make it even harder on black people?”

MOMism: “Walk in someone else's shoes.”  We teach our KID-Os to be empathetic, to think about what it is like to walk in somebody else’s shoes, to look at things from a different perspective and never make judgments based on what somebody looks like on the outside.

On the surface one may assume that the election of a black president would be the last word on race relations, but clearly it is much deeper than that.  Racial prejudice continues to be a long, hard road.  If we keep walking in the right direction, however, one day we'll get there.

    Racism will only end the day that everyone is treated the same, exactly the same. NO special privileges, preferential treatment etc for ANYONE based on their color/heritage, PERIOD. As long as we even separate people into these categories for ANY reason, racism will continue.

    After reading the piece by Maureen Dowd, I completely agree with her. I think Obama and his team ARE afraid of talking about race or the appearance that he is doing more for blacks than he is for the rest of the country, but when things are blatant they can't be ignored. Obama and his team must stop falling for right wing republican antics and start pushing back! He needs to get a little "hood" in his hood!

      Ridiculous, he is screwing EVERYONE, not just blacks. Sure, he may be showing how racist THEY truly are from the way they only voted for him because he was black, but they did that to themselves.
