PRESIDENT PRESENT: Obama Visits Gulf 4th Time

President Obama is back on the Gulf Coast, his fourth visit since the catastrophic BP oil spill April 2oth.  He will speak to Americans on Tuesday about the disaster, in the first Oval Office speech of his presidency. Reports show that Obama plans to pressure BP into creating an escrow account, so the company can compensate businesses and individuals for losses incurred from the spill.  President Obama will meet on Wednesday, for his first face-to-face, with BP chairman Tony Hayward to further discuss the disaster, and plans for containment and recovery.

MOMism: “Take the bull by the horns”. Our kids need to know that when there is a problem in their lives, it is best to take control of the situation, and meet it straight on. Just as President Obama is planning on speaking directly to the American people from the Oval Office, our kids need to confront problems, and the people in their lives that are affected, straight on.

I'm heartsick over the BP spill and furious that it happened. If the proper regulations had been enforced - which they weren't - and honest monitoring had been in place, the scale of this catastrophe wouldn't have been so great. Perhaps the loss of lives could have been prevented also. We absolutely should NOT continue to develop off-shore drilling until and unless we can guarantee this won't happen again...and I seriously doubt that can ever happen. The risks are too great. The Gulf of Mexico and it's precious resources will probably never recover. It's indefensible, in my opinion.
