I think the problem is much more systemic than this. We have media of every type telling girls (as young as toddlers) that a woman's worth is tied to beauty, and these beauty contests are perpetuating that problem. However, pole dancing, in this instance, without taking off the clothes, is no different than what women do on the dance floor of any club, just without the pole as a prop. We tell women that its okay to go out dancing (which frankly I dont see the harm in) but watch out if someone takes a pic of her and she decides to do something in the public eye. Also, we all make silly or stupid decisions.. its just that some of us end up in the spotlight and those decisions come back to haunt us. SO I suppose to sum it all up.. I dont see anything wrong with what she did, in the context that she was doing nothing illegal, and was in fact doing something that millions of American girls do every Friday or Saturday night with their friends (with or without the pole), and she's doing exactly what our own society perpetuates. If we dont like what she did, we need to focus our attentiomn and energy on changing the percepetions of what is important about women in our own communities and through educating our children; we should not be judging this woman for doing what most girls already do, but are lucky enough to NOT have it broadcast all over the world.

Let's start with that fact that we still have beauty contests, the most antiquated ritual imaginable. So if Miss USA pole danced before -- how is that different from the swimsuit competition with "the Donald" grinning on the front row?
