"Ignorance Is Bliss”: An Opinionated Mom’s Perspective on TEEN SEX

Of course we don’t want our teenagers to “do it,” but when puberty hits, it’s on. The train is on the track. Hormones start raging and there is no stopping them. Crush number one begins with a shy smile on the way to their locker. Crush two hits with a whiff of the quarterback’s sweat after a football game. The giggles. The flutters. Our girls can’t stop thinking about the boys…and our boys can’t wait to feel up those girls. We can pretend it isn’t happening and ignore it, or we can confront it head on. Because once the...

OWEN AN APOLOGY: Duke Student’s Sexy PowerPoint

Karen F. Owen, who is a 2010 Duke University graduate, created a sophisticated PowerPoint presentation documenting and rating her sexual experiences, complete with graphs and charts.  The subject of the presentation is “An education beyond the classroom: excelling in the realm of horizontal academics.”  Each man in the report was a student-athlete at Duke and is graded according to criteria like attractiveness, size and athletic ability. Owen sent the presentation to a couple of friends and it eventually went “viral.”  She now says that she didn’t mean to hurt anyone with the presentation, and did not intend to spread it over the net.

MOMism: Dont kiss and tell.  Really girls, do we need to go over this again?  Don't be THAT kind of girl...be the kind of girls boys want to bring home to meet their MAMAs...not the kind of girl that does a powerpoint on her sexual escapades.  Karen's MAMA must be beside herself!

Boys used to be the ones that kissed and told.  Now, sex is fodder for the entire web set?  What?! There is a problem today in that our kids want every aspect of their lives documented and shared online. Why is that?  It is like everyone is trying to expand their 15 minutes of fame into lifelong snippets on YouTube.  Reality TV gone mad?  Dreams of instant fame and fortune?  What is missing from our kids lives that they want everything to be public info?  Are they so desperate for attention, that they look to strangers to get noticed?  MAMAs - what is really going on?

Bottom line, sluts reap what they sow. You do it, you own it, and I hope this presentation comes up at every job interview.

This is a 2-part problem. First, kids are anxious to put it all out there. Second, too many people have "rubber-neck" syndrome & feel compelled to view the thrills & chills that other's post. Both work together to form a youth culture w/very loose boundaries.
