FEATHERING OUR NESTS: O-MAMA’s Perspective on SPRING CLEANING

Spring is in the air.  The birds and the bees are flitting around doing their thing…nature abounds.  The birds are feathering their nests and laying their eggs, while the bees are busy pollinating every flower in the garden.  The air is crisp and clean.  Chirping and buzzing fills the air.

Everything seems fresh and new.  So, let’s take a new look at Spring, shall we? The first thing that comes to mind is cleaning. Ugggh.  But, let's talk about the birds and the bees instead...the part of the story that happens...

LOST AT SEA: Naval Video Madness

How about a little on-board entertainment?  Some shuffleboard or musical extravaganza to pass the time at sea while in the Middle East?  Everyone should have a little fun on a cruise, right?  Well, U.S. Naval Captain, Owen Honors, entertained the crew of the aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise, all right.  The ship’s 6,000 crew members were treated to racy videos that were broadcast via closed-circuit television on ship.   The skits were meant to be fun and lighthearted entertainment. However, some found the depictions of simulated masturbation, along with mocking gays and joking about women taking showers together, inappropriate.  Come on…have a sense of humor, swabbies?@#%

Apparently, the skits weren’t meant to be politically correct, but funny, morale boosters for the sailors.  In fact, Honors introduced them with, “This evening, all of you bleeding hearts…why don’t you just go ahead and hug yourselves for the next 20 minutes or so, because there’s a really good chance you’re gonna be offended.”   Well, the Navy is not happy with the situation.  Duh!  Spongebob could figure that out! Navy spokesperson ,Commander Chris Sims, issued a statement that, “Those in command…are charged to lead by example and are held accountable for setting the proper tone and upholding the standards of honor, courage and commitment that we expect sailors to exemplify.”

Opinionated MAMAs need to know, “Who’s the captain of the ship?”  We MAMAs are in charge at home and the ship’s captain is to be in charge at sea.  It is like the mistake some parents make by trying to be their kids’ friends instead of a parent. Kids, and crews, need someone who will help them navigate the waters and keep them afloat.  The captain sets the tone, and should be the example and not part of the joke.  Aren’t there boatswains or coxswains or some one else who can be the comic relief?  Come on…if MAMAs start acting like a bunch of numbskulls, our kids will feel like no one is at the helm- and they’ll be lost at sea.  MAMAs, how do you keep your crew ship shape?
