- JUST SAY NO!: Mexican President Visits Congress
-
Felipe Calderon told Congress that the drug trafficking problem is due to U.S. demand for illegal narcotics. He is asking for cooperation with the United States in solving the problems of border security, gun smuggling, drug trafficking and illegal immigration into the U.S.
MOMism: “It takes two to tango.” And, what a dance it is! Guns and people pass into Mexico and drugs and people pass into the U.S. There is an unhealthy, co-dependent relationship going on...all because we have not figured out how to secure the border. We give our kids limits and enforce them, why can’t our two countries figure out the “limits” and enforce them as well? Like the Tango, immigration reform can be slow and dramatic...or crisp and deliberate? How do we move in sync with our friend and partner, instead of stepping on each other's toes?

Quite simply, the U.S. Federal government, not individual states, should enforce legal immigration. Immigration is to the United States of America, not to individual states, like, oh say, ARIZONA. My ancestors were immigrants. My husband is a Russian immigrant. I would rather live in a country filled with immigrants than filled with racists, but let's help people LEGALLY immigrate to our wonderful country. I have compassion for the dire circumstances in other countries, but permitting in excess of 12 or so million illegal immigrants to remain in our country (not all from Mexico) has seriously damaged our economy. Rich, mostly white businessmen have exploited illegal immigrants/undocumented workers, lobbied our federal government for lax controls, and this is why illegal immigration has spiraled out of control. Additionally, they send work to China or India or other countries where labor is dirt cheap, instead of employing Americans for a decent wage. This illegal immigration problem would never have happened if mamas governed the U.S. We know when it's time to call it a day and send our guests home.on 05/25/10Reply
- Forgot to mention that the illegal drug trade is directly linked to our lax border control. If our government enforced our borders, then it would be impossible for drugs and/or human beings to be smuggled across our borders. Calderon is basically a thug blaming his country's problems on the U.S. when the truth is that the Mexican government is corrupt. My advice to Obama is what my grandmother used to tell me: Clean your own house FIRST, then worry about helping your neighbors clean their mess if they request your help.on 05/25/10Reply
- We mamas use this term all the time: Setting BOUNDARIES. Why is it so hard for the men, who for the most part govern the world, to follow this basic concept?on 05/25/10Reply

Felipe needs to read his own laws and quit criticizing ours. The President needs to quit sticking up for a country that is as screwed up as Mexico. They are coming in droves here in TX. WHY? Hmmmm. Not hard to figure out.on 05/25/10Reply
