HOT MAMA: Coming To The AID

Trish Karlin is one hot MAMA! We chose Trish to be our first HOT-MAMA honoree in December of 2010, because she is taking on an important hot button issue - pediatric AIDS/HIV. We are featuring her again this month because December 1, 2011 is World AIDS day.

"On December 1, people around the world marked World AIDS Day. Now, as always, we at the Foundation remember Elizabeth Glaser’s passion for and dedication to ending pediatric AIDS, and we reaffirm our commitment finishing the work she started. One mother’s fight has now become our fight". -pedaids.org blog.

As Vice President of Global Business Planning for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation (EDGAF), she has helped establish one of the world’s largest programs for the prevention of HIV transmission from mother to baby. EGPAF is now working in more than 5,000 health care sites to deliver critical HIV prevention and treatment services for families. Her work reaches more than 2 million pregnant women each year.

A 16-year veteran of the Foundation, Trish is responsible for program operations, resource management, and sustainability planning. She manages $150 million in funding and 1300 employees. Trish has cultivated and secured multi-million dollar gifts for this important cause. When she is not checking on EGPAF projects around the country and the world, she is in the classroom. Trish is about to receive her MBA from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business.

Trish believes, "all moms have the wisdom and ability to make a change the world in both big and small ways.” And, she is the most opinionated about, “the health and well-being of children, whether it be my own or those all over the world."

As a wife and mother of two great boys, Miles (9) and Dean (5), who contributes to the fight against mother/baby HIV transmission, makes lunches, carpools her kid-os to school and soccer, helps with homework and is getting her MBA, oh my! Trish is one Hot Mama making a difference in the lives of her kids and millions more, reminding us that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Thanks Trish for all you do - you are smoking hot!
