GO POSITIVE: What Kid-O’s Can Learn From the Political Debates

Not a lot of kids watch political debates, but they could learn a thing or two from watching a group of adults conduct themselves during a public discussion.   Don’t be afraid, MAMAs, so far the candidates have been quite civil to each other…”G” rated TV.  Check that, the last GOP Tea Party debate merits a PG rating, due to some hecklers- bad form, people!  Kids need to know it’s always best to “go positive.”

We’re sick of everyone throwing out accusations.  It’s like watching kids on the playground saying, “he voted for that bad thing,” and, “they were wrong,” and “it’s not my fault, it’s theirs!” We have debates to hear about what candidates stand for, not who they are against.

So kids, here's the lesson. If you're ever running for office and in a debate, remember that’s rude to point the finger at the other candidates and admonish them.  Instead, tell your audience about yourself.  What do you stand for?  What do you want to accomplish?  What makes you the “winner”?

Also, we'd tell you, that, whenever speaking in public you should "know your audience."  Be respectful and age appropriate in theme, information and language.  Make sure that you've checked your facts, because people deserve a credible message. "Your word is your bond," and if people can't trust what you say, then they won't trust you.  Finally, always, and especially when in doubt..remember to smile.

And to you, Republican candidates, some words from one Republican MAMA...

We want a new class president.  We want to know which one of you will do the best job.  But we need some help.  There is a lot for us to take in and get through, while also doing our lives.  “We got bills to pay, we got mouths to feed…” (Wait, isn’t that a song?) We won’t know which one of you to choose if you don’t tell us who you are, instead of telling us what the other guys aren’t.  Let us get to know you…trust us, we can take it…especially after all we’ve been through together!

MAMAs…We are trying to put together all kinds of crazy Republican “tickets."

How about “Romney/Huntsman”? Political experience and international/Chinese/business combo.

How do we feel about Perry?  Kinda fun, but fear Bush comparisons?!

Republican MAMAS - What’s your opinion for a winning ticket? Can’t wait to see what you MAMAs think!
