- GAY PRIDE: President Obama Kicks Off LGBT Pride Month
-
President Obama delivered remarks at a LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people) Pride Month event in the East Room on Tuesday. Vice President Biden also attended. Currently, Obama continues his 2008 campaign agenda to expand federal rights and benefits for gays and lesbians, this time in the form of the Family and Medical Leave Act. On Wednesday, the Labor Department is expected to announce that federal officials have rethought the Family and Medical Leave Act, concluding that under the law, a gay federal employee may take leave to care for a child with a gay partner. This follows a string of public policy initiatives to promote gay rights by individually targeting government restrictions on health benefits, federal housing, hospital visitation, and federal child-care subsidies for same-sex couples. Some gay rights advocates claim that these efforts are still not expansive or timely enough. Conversely, opponents of gay rights are alarmed by the administration's effort to alter the way gays and lesbians are viewed under federal law, and accuse the president of undermining traditional marriage.
MOMism: “Families, just like people, come in all shapes and sizes.” The traditional, nuclear family has been redefined in America. O-MAMAs can teach their kids about their own values and choices, while at the same time promote respect, decency and acceptance for families that may not “look” like their own.

Assuming that someone serving in the military is gay and noone knows, but they do their job just like anybody else who is not gay. They perform well, they are respected etc. If their sexual preference becomes known, how come all of a sudden, they are percieved as no good? I think this whole topic is so far out of control. Who cares if they are gay, are they doing their job? Gees, we need to stay out of this personal issue and focus on other things that really matter like the homeless and jobless.on 12/25/10Reply

I applaud the President for what he is doing. The government has to lead by example and if LBGT people and their families are doing what they need to do to support our national economy, then we need to make sure they have the same basic rights and heterosexuals. And if their lifestyle is wrong, then they will be judged by God, as will we all!on 06/24/10Reply
