- DON’T QUOTE ME: Top Quotes of the Year
-
Photo Reuters Chatter boxes beware! You could end up in the Yale Book of Quotations. Just be careful not to put your foot in your mouth. Our kids know, maybe better than we do in this electronic age, that you have to “think before you speak.” If not, you could end up on this list!
Yale Law school librarian Fred Shapiro, is the Mr. Blackwell of the quote world, and has put out his top 10 quotes of the year list since 2006. This year, topping the list is Christine O’Donnell’s famous, “I’m not a witch.” Shapiro liked it because, “it was such a remarkable unconventional quote to be a part of the political discourse.” Yeah…and it’s not really something you hear every day either. In fact, O’Donnell’s quote was tied with former CEO of British Petroleum, Tony Hayward’s, “I’d like my life back.” Yeah…mom’s feel that way too sometimes…we just keep it to ourselves, Tony! It's such a jerky thing to say. Anyway, Shapiro picks quotes that represent the times, but don’t have to be particularly poetic or eloquent. Here’s the top 5 of the list for 2010.
• “I’m not a witch.” –Christine O’Donnell
• “I’d like my life back.” –Tony Hayward
• “If you touch my junk,I’m gonna have you arrested.” – airline passenger John Tyner to TSA agent.
• “Don’t retreat. Instead- reload!” –Sarah Palin
• “Chi! Chi! Chi! Le! Le! Le! Los mineros de Chile!” –Chilean mine rescue
