TIPPING OUR HAND:Opinionated MAMA's Perspective on INTELLIGENCE

Osama Bin Laden is dead and we all want to know how.  We want the EXACT details.  How did we find him? What did the SEALS do? What was the plan and how was it executed from start to finish?  Well, guess what, MAMAs, some things we just don't need to know.  Some things, in fact, its better that we don't know.  Here's why...because if WE know, then the bad guys know too. Here's our opinion on the subject from last year (in fact, on May 5 of last year, weirdly!)  Read and let us know what you...

DEAD OR ALIVE: Osama Bin Laden Dead

Some news is so big, it’s not only MOMentous but global in scope.  This is one such story.  Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, was killed in a ginormous compound in Islamabad, Pakistan (uh huh, how come our Pakistani pals didn't know he was there?!) 9 years and 7 months after the attacks.  The President reported that the U.S. conducted an operation which led to the death of al Qaeda’s leader.   For those Americans who lost family members on 9/11, this is the day they’ve been waiting for.  For the rest of us, RELIEF.

The President reminded us that "the worst images are those that were unseen to the world.  The empty seat at the dinner table.  Children who were forced to grow up without their mother or their father.  Parents who would never know the feeling of their child’s embrace.  Nearly 3,000 citizens taken from us, leaving a gaping hole in our hearts."

MOMism: You can run, but you cant hide.  We are America, and if you do us harm, it is not IF we will find you, but when.  Yesterday, when we heard the news, it's hard to describe the feelings...relief,  happiness even.  It seemed natural, but when your 5 year old asks what happened, it's awkward explaining why you are celebrating someone's death.  So, you simply say "the bad man that hurt our country, can't hurt us any more."  And, you tuck your kids in knowing that they are safer and sounder than they were yesterday.

This is a day that we should remind our kids that good guys do get the bad guys and that our brave men and women sacrifice so much to keep them safe.  The team of elite forces that carried out the mission are the best of the best.  We are so proud and grateful - their MAMAs have raised national heroes.  But, let's not let our guard down MAMAs.  We still must keep our mommy wits about us and notice when things just don't seem right - in malls, in stadiums, in amusement parks - because there will always be more bad guys.

(NOTE: There is a State Dept. warning for all Americans traveling abroad in case bin Laden has a contingency plan?!)

Mission accomplished MAMAS!?  Let us know your opinions and what you are telling your kids?

Michelle just told me that the Seals' "go" word was "Geronimo!" The backstory is that Geronimo's two families were killed and when he went to avenge their deaths, he yelled his name.
