- CLASSLESS JOINT: Galifianakis’ Real Time Doobie
-
Photo You Tube On Bill Maher’s Real Time, actor Zach Galifianakis (from The Hangover) decided to spark up a doobie and smoke it on air. Conservative Fox News contributor, Margaret Hoover, was sitting next to the actor and gave a sniff and confirmed the joint was real.
MOMism:”Are you high?” Don’t we teach our kids to follow the rules? Even if we don’t agree with a law…the law is the law. Pot is still illegal, (at least today-we’ll see if Proposition 19 passes!) and maybe Zach needs to pay the price for his blustery behavior as an example to all the teens who are hif fans. You can’t just light up a fatty in front of us and expect to get away with it!

first off, all tweens/teens/young adults need to be taught from adolescence that the frontal lobe of the brain is the LAST part of the brain to develope and doesnt finish growing till 25ish. Any kind of mood altering substance or physical injury to the frontal lobe while its growing will hinder/deminish/kill parts of it. The frontal lobe is where we make our decisions, understand repercussions, contemplate consequence...as growing up, the frontal lobe functions arent fully developed and therefore 'grown up' choices arent understandable. My kids know this, its been drilled into them....taught from adolescence. and they know what happens phisiologially, biologically, and psychologically to a young brain exposed to alcohol/drugs before the brain is fully developed. with that, they will make thier own choice, but fully loaded with knowledge! btw, i smoke pot. yes, self medicating. Used whiskey tell aboout 15 yrs ago..then switched....glad i did. and had i been armed w the knowledge my kids are, i would have never abused if i had even used. KNOWLEDGE IS POWERon 11/02/10Reply

Anyone who is watching Bill Maher should not take offense to this. I'd agree that we need to teach our children to respect the rules, but to use common sense as well. Since marijuana is much less harmful than legal alcohol, I secretly prefer that she chooses that for her vice - legal or not. I would also teach my child to fully question anything who comes out of anyone's mouth who contributes to Fox News - as I understand it, it wasn't a real joint anyway. Those Fox folks are ALWAYS overreacting - something I want my child to avoid.on 11/02/10Reply
