CAPPED BABY CAPPED: BP Contains Leak

British Petroleum has capped the well that has been leaking oil into the Gulf of Mexico for 87 days.  The cap is a critical move towards sealing off the well, although it does not ensure that the well is permanently capped and work on the two relief wells will continue.  The three-ram stacking cap will be tested every six hours to ensure that it is still functioning.  BP executive Kent Wells said in a press conference, “we just started the test and I don’t want to create a false sense of excitement.”

MOMism: “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.”  We tell our kids to keep small victories in check on the way to a goal--celebrate, but don't throw the party, yet.  We should be cautiously optimistic about this new development, but the goal of securing the well, controlling it or sealing it and restoring the damage that has been done is a long way off.  A sigh of relief and a little "yeah"...now keep working BP!

    Yes, there is still a LONG way to go before the Gulf is restored. I am glad to see BP is not claiming victory at this point because the war has not yet been won!
