- BRINGING HOME THE BACON: I Am Guilty
-
Sometimes being a working mom, we feel guilty that we like our jobs so much! As publicists, we love working with magazines, TV Shows and reporters from all over the country, helping to shape the news and the bottom line for our clients. We love seeing our clients in print or on TV, which means a “job well done”, and receiving the ever elusive “stamp of approval” that you don’t get that often in motherhood. When working, you have a to-do list that actually gets done, you have measurable successes and you feel like you have accomplished something.
As a mom, the to-do list seems to just grow and grow and grow. Eventually, we know our successes will be measurable – when we send our little ones out into the world to be successful adults. But for now, we relish the daily moments of glory (when they say “Thank you” without prompting, or a trip the grocery store minus a meltdown about why you didn’t buy their favorite cereal) understanding that success in raising a child is a long term investment and that there will be days when we feel just a bit behind the eight ball (Is the laundry ever going to get put away? Its 6:00 and I haven’t started dinner and by the way – do you mind having quesadillas, AGAIN?!).
All that said, we still wouldn’t trade either one. We are guilty. We want it all – a career and motherhood – and we are hoping that by doing so, we are serving as a positive role model for our children demonstrating to them the importance of contributing to the financial and emotional well-being of our family and balancing responsibilities.
