BREAKING BREAD: Christians Welcome Mosque

In Tennessee, Pastor Steve Stone, has put a sign outside of his church saying “Welcome the the Neighborhood.”  He is welcoming the new Memphis Islamic Center that will be built across the street from his own place of church.  Stone said, “What would Jesus do if He were us? He would welcome the neighbor.”  In response to this, Islamic center board member Danish Siddiqui said,”I think it’s helped break down lot of barriers in both congregations.”

MOMism:Reach out and touch someone.  We teach our kids to get to know someone before passing judgement.  We tell them that there are good people and bad people of all shapes, shades and faiths.

Staying in your corner and alienating yourself from those that are different not only breeds ignorance and misunderstanding, but hate and fear.  Extending a welcoming hand encourages perspective and understanding and helps to foster faith and hope. These two men of different faiths have shown us what "love thy neighbor" means.  They are a shining example of breaking down barriers and taking the time to get to know someone before labeling them as one thing or another.  Inclusion, not exclusion...acceptance, not judgement.  That's a nice welcome to the neighborhood!
