A new phase has begun in Iraq with the end of the combat mission and the beginning of the advisory and civil support mission.  The troops have been withdrawing over the last weeks, but 50,000 troops will remain in country.  The President has said that Operation New Dawn will allow a transitional team of U.S. forces to remain in that country to advise and assist Iraqi forces to protect those on the ground.  He’s promised that, by the end of next year, these forces too will be coming home.  He said in his speech to the nation, “At every turn, America’s men and women in uniform have served with courage and resolve.  As Commander-In-Chief, I am proud of their service.  Like all Americans, I am awed by their sacrifice, and by the sacrifices of their families.”

MOMism: "Tomorrow is a new day."  We teach our kids that every day is a fresh start...a new opportunity to laugh, love, explore, hope and achieve their dreams.  Regardless of what goes on the day before, the next morning brings new challenges and opportunities.

The transition of the U.S. role in Iraq is the same.  Our troops have fought, died and succeeded in providing the Iraqi people with a new opportunity to define their own future.  Regardless of why we went to war in the first place, the fact is that today is a new day for that country and their people - we wish them stability and prosperity in the days ahead. 

We welcome our soldiers home to a grateful nation - for their service and their sacrifice to provide peace and freedom to Iraq, while protecting the principles and people of the United States of America.
