Who the heck are the Muslim Brotherhood anyway? The name kind of freaks out a portion of the US population. Anyone in here know their history and could share with us? Meanwhile I'll post a link to a Jerusalem Post article about them and let us know your take on it too!on 02/01/11Reply

Looks like Mubarak is out. What implications does this have for the Suez canal? For oil prices? for Saudi Arabia and Jordan? It could be economic/petroleum and security disaster! Anyone?on 02/01/11Reply

That Islam does NOT oppress women! The image of the typical Muslim woman wearing the veil and forced to stay home and forbidden to drive is all too common in most peoples thoughts. Although some Muslim countries may have laws that oppress women, this should not be seen as coming from Islam. Many of these countries do not rule by any kind of Shari'ah (Islamic law) and introduce their own cultural stand points on the issue of gender equity. Islam on the other hand gives men and women different roles and equity between the two is laid down in the Quran and the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Islam sees a woman, whether single or married, as an individual in her own right, with the right to own and dispose of her property and earnings. A marriage gift is given by the groom to the bride for her own personal use, and she keeps her own family name rather than taking her husband's. Both men and women are expected to dress in a way that is modest and dignified. The Messenger of God (peace be upon him) said:"The most perfect in faith amongst believers is he who is best in manner and kindest to his wife." Violence of any kind towards women and forcing them against their will for anything is not allowed. A Muslim marriage is a simple, legal agreement in which either partner is free to include conditions. Marriage customs thus vary widely from country to country. Divorce is not common, although it is acceptable as a last resort. According toIslam, a Muslim girl cannot be forced to marry against her will: her parents simply suggest young men they think may be suitable.on 01/27/11Reply
- Hi MAMA! Welcome. Welcome. Welcome. I got really excited to read your post because I believe MOMS can make all the difference in helping our nation understand and appreciate our differences, not fear them. And, moms can find all the things we have in common, too. Having a direct dialog that breaks down barriers and connects us can be really constructive - not just for women and mothers, but for our country. Thank you so much for sharing your opinions and insights...I hope you share them often. -Michelleon 01/27/11Reply
- Do any of you MAMAs in here have relatives or friends in Egypt that can give us some insight on what is going on there..what's it like on the ground? How is the mood of the people? Are the afraid? Invigorated? Any news would be interesting for us to have!on 01/31/11Reply
- Hi Bissicat - we need help explaining to MAMAs that Glen Beck is having a mental breakdown...or, simply his conspiracy theories are making him rich at the expense of people's anxiety and fears.on 02/03/11Reply

Did you MAMAs see the President at the UN giving his speech about Mideast Peace and promoting the establishment of a Palestinian state? How feasible is this? Every one of our presidents has tried this...and all have failed Obama's pipe dream? or could it happen?on 09/23/10Reply

@latinmama: I think it is about RESPECT. When you go into someone's home...or someone's country...you should respect their culture and honor their wishes. Do what you want in your own space, but be respectful of others in theirs! Put your clothes on girl!on 10/31/09Reply

Wouldn't it be appropriate for Beyonce to have some sort of protocol person with her so that she KNOWS in advance how not to offend people when she goes on tour? Or is it about making a statement no matter who she offends?on 10/30/09Reply

O-MAMAs, just posted the complete UN report on the Gaza conflict so you can do fact checking on your own (we recommend skimming the Executive Summary, starting on p. 5...the entire document is 500+ pages!).on 10/04/09Reply
