MONEY: Uncle Sam
"There's no such thing as a free lunch."
No one needs to tell us about "cash flow" - MAMAs know first hand that money goes out faster than it comes in sometimes. When we're short on cash, we cut back on things we don't need. We prioritize.
However, we don't stop buying groceries ?! We might buy pasta instead of steak or use coupons to save some money, but we don't stop feeding our kids?! We streamline our budgets and we try everything in our power to improve our cash flow. We go back to work, work more hours, get a second job, borrow from an uncle, have the kids pay into to the family kiddy, etc. Everything on the table to solve the cash crisis. We don't shirk our responsibilities, we make tough choices and everyone sacrifices a little to improve the bottom line to make it work.
Work - the key word. We need to have a job and our politicians need to do theirs.
So, MAMAs, it's up to us to teach our kids fiscal responsibility - working hard, earning allowance, managing their piggy banks, picking the things they want to spend money on, paying for it, making correct change, etc. We are the ones that teach them about priorities and the importance of earning money and saving, sharing and spending it wisely. We'd like to think that those in Washington understand basic economic principles (revenue + expenditures), but at the MOMent they don't seem to get it?!#@!?!
Our politicians will continue negotiating budgets and debt ceilings behind closed doors - and pontificating to the public in front of microphones - while we do our part to raise the next generation not to repeat the same mistakes that got us into this mess. So, this weekend, teach your KID-Os a little piggy bank economics around the kitchen table. Hopefully, it will translate to some better macro-money managing in the future.
