UNITED WE STAND: Rebuilding The World Trade Center

UPDATE:  Today, the 911 Memorial Museum opens.  President Bush and President Obama will attend the ceremony.

Originally posted 5/5/11: Osama Bin Laden’s death has sent the President to New York, to lay a wreath at the World Trade Center site and visit the firehouse and police station in that district in remembrance of those who died on 9/11.  This is a full circle moment for our country, so we thought an update on the re-construction of the World Trade Center site was in order.

After years of planning, March 13, 2006, started the surveying of the official rebuilding to begin. The entire sixteen-acre site has now been under humming with tools and equipment for the past couple years. Hammers, nails, cranes and the beautiful noise of it all. The National September 11 Memorial and Museum started first and will be opened on this year’s 10thanniversary of the tragedy.  It will be a place for reflection and remembrance, as well as a place for future generations to come and learn about the events of 9/11.

Currently, the One World Trade Center tower (1 WTC) has been raised to the 64th floor and a glass curtain wall has risen to the 34th floor.  Concrete floors have been installed to the 57th floor have been poured as well.

The rebuilding effort is not just focused on the physical location, but on rebuilding the community and our American spirit, as well.

MOMISM:  “When you get knocked down, get back up.” America quite literally got knocked down on 9/11.  But, ours is a fighting spirit.  We can never let anything keep us down – terrorist attacks, economic recessions, etc.  We are a great nation and we prove it time and time again with our resilience and our commitment to each other.  There are moments that bring us together and times that tear us apart.  Let this be a moment of unity and strength for us all.

We are the scrappiest of all the scrappy people on the planet…that is the foundation of our country.  We are built on solid principals.  We must never forget what happened on that horrible day, but we must move forward.  So, we have literally cleared away the rubble and begun this reconstruction to symbolize our enduring spirit. Giant skyward reaching monuments to the world that we have risen from the ashes…that we got knocked down, but America is back up, steady on her feet and stronger than ever!

We will never forget…let’s always remember who we are – united in grief, but always united.

I hope that the opening of the museum and the advancement of the project, gives our nation some light in all the darkness that has surrounded us since 9/11 and is a symbol of promise for a brighter tomorrow. Today, I'm remembering all that has been lost…and all that we still have. God bless MAMAS. Kiss your kids.
