GROUNDHOG DAY AGAIN: Phil Says Early Spring

Punxsutwaney Phil stayed above ground and…you know what that means?  Spring will come early.  Thank goodness for those Americans living through this terrible of terrible Winters.  The groundhog forecasts a little spring in our step…so, we should be thawing out soon!

Not a second too soon for those in the Midwest and Northeast who are getting slammed by a winter storm that has shut down businesses, transportation and schools.   Thirty states and one third of the U.S. population have been affected by this latest storm.  Chi-town is set  to get its biggest snowfall in more than 40 years.  Buuurrrrr.

So, MAMAs, why are we digging our way out of the snow, if the globe is warming?  Enquiring minds want to know!  Sure, we know there is a difference between “weather” and the “climate”:

•  weather is short-term; what is happening outside from minute to minute

•  climate is the normal trend; what is it usually like where you are – mild, seasonal, rainy, etc.

Most scientists believe that the climate of the Earth is changing and getting warmer.  So, what’s up with all the snow?  The warmer climate is creating warmer water.  Warmer water creates more precipitation – more rain, more snow.  The theory being that climate change is causing more intense weather.

The lesson for today might be bundle up, stay warm and make some hot cocoa and shrinky dinks!  But, there are skeptics about climate change because it’s hard to see the climate changing…it’s much easier to see weather.  So, probably “seeing is believing” explains it best.  Not until climate change impacts our immediate lives will we really believe that it matters…but, then what?  Sometimes the most powerful things in our lives, we can’t see – in some ways it’s like the belief in a higher power, sometimes ya gotta go on what you want to believe, because the alternative is too scary. Let us know your opinions MAMAs!

I believe that all conservatives should take a conservative view on this…err on the side of caution…why not? There is nothing to lose. If anyone says "jobs" I might be sick…figure out how to create jobs and not send toxins into the world?! We cannot pollute our way into a brighter future…

There are bills (HR910 & S482) before Congress now, to limit the EPA's authority on "global warming". Most, if not all Republicans and a few Democrates are for this bills because they say the EPAs regulations will "raise energy costs and cause job loses". If all that these yahoos care about is "temporary" higher energy coase and job loses, they are being very short sighted. It is much easier and cheaper to keep our AIR & WATER CLEAN(ER) now than it will be to clean it up later to say nothing on of the deaths and health costs of continued dirty air and water. :-)

Hang on to your hat PAPPA because the republican agenda is going to take this country on a ride back down the rabbit hole. Our country is in trouble because we cannot think long-term issues and strategically figure out how to plan for the future, protect our natural resources AND make money doing it? We are so smart, but act so stupidly sometimes. Can't our politicians sit down and figure out a solution without contaminating the air, oceans and land? It might require a few more brain cells, but if we didn't demoralize and defund our educational system maybe we would have smarter politicians?!

p.s., After reading the article, here's my analogy…our politicians are focused on the immediate "weather" outside because they are clueless about what the political "climate" will be in 2012?!
