DON’T CRY FOR ME: Boehner Becomes The Speaker Of The House

The 112th session of Congress began today opening “the people’s house” for business in the new year.  Republican John Boehner was sworn in as the Speaker of the House and was moved to tears, again.  We have to say, there is something sweet and humbling about the emotion he exudes, as long as he doesn’t turn into a big cry baby over every little thing.

His address promised to reduce spending, including cutting the Congressional budget.  He also assured the House that the majority will listen to the American people and made a commitment to openness towards the minority’s opinions.  He made a point of saying that respectful and responsible debate on the House floor will be welcome in this session, but any bad behavior or talking out of turn will not be acceptable.  Sounds like he is running a house, alright! (-:

Wanna know what made us MAMAs cry while watching this event on TV?  We were moved by the peaceful transfer of power that we take for granted in America. No bullets, no protests…just a ritual and ceremony passing the gavel from one party to another.  Every one respectful and humbled by the idea of America and the greatness of our democratic process.  We are led to believe that our politicians are at odds all the time and that our government doesn’t work.  That is not true.  Our political system was set up to make sure that we debate issues from different sides and are forced to find solutions together.  Balance.  We get it.  And, when push comes to shove, “we are all in this together.”

We have to say, regardless of parties and tissue, Speaker Boehner is a man who clearly is in awe of his position and appreciates that he is working for something larger than himself.  He said ,“More than a country, America is an idea.”   We like it…now, we have a great idea – get to work!

MAMAs – any tips for keeping a house in order???

    Opinionated MAMA

You know it's nice to see a man cry, and show his emotion. I say let the man cry if he needs to. We need more like him.
