Royal wedding bells again! Britian’s Prince William and his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton are engaged, after he popped the question when they were vacationing in Kenya. He gave Kate his mother’s sapphire-and-diamond engagement ring, so that “she could be a part of this day.” Wills said, ”It’s my mother’s engagement ring, so of course it’s very special to me, and Kate’s now very special to me, so it was only right to put the two together.” Sniff!
We tried to watch the video of the press conference at O-MAMA headquarters (we love a good romance!), but we could barely hear or see them because of all the camera flashes. Talk about grace under pressure! The overriding feeling we got was that she is very much a lady and he treats her that way…as a gentleman should! (Note to the media: Back off these kids and let them have a bit of privacy – the press conference was totally blinding, so give them a bit of space to enjoy the moment.)
Hmmmm…”chivalry is not dead”…and our girls need to remember that acting like a lady is the best way to find their prince charming. Princes can come in any shape or size…they can be an average Joe, but what makes them royalty to us, is how they behave and how they make our little girls feel. Adored, respected, appreciated…all of our daughters deserve to be treated like princesses. We MAMAs owe it to them to show our girls what a “lady” is by our example. And they will see how gentlemen should treat them by watching the way their fathers treat us…and them. Our girls might have to kiss a lot of frogs, but they should know there are plenty of prince charmings out there and their own personal fairy tale can come true. It might not be the cliché that they read about, but they get to write their own love story.
It’s been 30 years since the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. We MAMAs are old enough to remember Charles and Di walking down the aisle…lots of poofy silk and white horses. The world stopped to watch in awe of the spectacle of every young girl’s dream wedding. Now, we’ve got a young, modern, royal couple to watch…and we hope that this time, it truly will be happily ever after for them! Sniff again.
I hope their fairy tale comes true. They are an adorable couple!
Love your commentary on this–especially the part about our girls writing their own love story–so important to instill in our kids (and not just our girls!) that they may have to kiss a lot of frogs before they find the person that's right for them! Thanks!
Was thinking the same thing…we might not all live a fairy tale, but it's our story and it's up to us to write it. Great job mamas.
