According to an ABC News exclusive, Elizabeth Warren will be named to a new position: Assistant to the President and Special Adviser to the Secretary of the Treasury on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. She came up with the idea for a new consumer protection agency and believes in greater accountability and transparency.
Warren is a friend of the president and her title as assistant/counselor to Obama and Tim Geitner allows her to bypass a Senate confirmation process. The President says this is a move to save time and also, so that she can quickly discuss the new agency publically. Critics say she is too anti-business and that she should be required to go through the confirmation process. Republican Bon Corker from Tennessee, who is a member of the Senate Banking Committee, said that her position, “is unprecedented in the nature of its unfettered and unchecked authority, which makes the confirmation process even more important to the interests of the American people. The individual who heads this bureau will be able to make rules, with ultimately no checks and balances that could have broad reaching implications for the U.S economy.”
MOMism: “There are no shortcuts.” Our kids have to play by the rules and so do we. There are no shortcuts to getting what they want…they have to follow steps and go through proper channels. Rules are rules. Get in line and wait your turn…we hate it when peopel take cutzies.
Circumventing the confirmation process with this appointment sends a bad signal to the nation. Just because it’s expeditious, does not make it okay to do…our country has rules and we expect the President, at least, to follow them. On the other hand, Republicans have been holding up confirmations just for the fun of it. That’s not o.k., either. Keep the line moving folks. SO THERE!
why special privaledges for her?
When the government isn't willing to follow the rules then our nation as a whole believes that it is okay to break the rules too. So what I'm hearing the President say is that it's okay to be a criminal just as long as you're the President when you do it. Hmmmm..That has the resonating sounds of a former 1970's President. Let's not encourage our children to help build more prisons by setting unethical and rule breaking examples. I have told my children rules are in place for our safety. I certainly want my safety.
On the other hand, aside from usurping government rules, what is upsetting the banking industry and causing them to say she is unfriendly? Has to make you wonder what they are still hiding.
