Chelsea Clinton, only-child and daughter of two of the most visible faces in America, is finalizing her wedding plans. She is planning on marrying her long-time boyfriend Mark Mezvinsky on July 31st in what many are calling the “wedding of the year.” Former first daughter met Mezvinsky when they were both teenagers through her parent’s political ties in Washington. They attended Stanford University together, where they both studied finance.
Mezvinsky is the son of former Iowa Congressman Edward Mezvinsky and former NBC reporter and congresswoman Marjorie Margolies Mezvinsky. Father-in-law to-be Edward Mezvinsky was indicted for fraud in 2001 and served 80 months in prison; he was released in April 2008. Mother-in-law-to-be cast the decisive vote in passing Clinton’s budget credited for balancing the federal budget. President Obama and Oprah are a few of the 500 A-list guests who have been invited to the service in New York’s charming town of Rhinebeck, approximately 100 miles north of NYC.
MOMism: ”This is the first day of the rest of your life.” For many of us, it’s hard to believe that Chelsea Clinton, that awkward pre-pubescent first-daughter that we all met in 1992, when her dad was elected President, could possibly be old enough to get married herself. In fact, 29-year old Chelsea Clinton stands on her own achievements. She is a Stanford grad, and earned a Master’s degree in International Relations from Oxford. Between campaigning for her mom, Hillary Clinton, for a 2008 presidential bid, Chelsea worked as an investment analyst at a large NY hedge fund.
Be prepared MAMAs….this too will happen to us. Even though we may now watch our daughters licking ice cream cones in their pigtails, it won’t be long before they are all grown up, just like Chelsea Clinton. Hopefully we will have provided them with the confidence and tools to fly on their own. And, one day, if they choose, be the type of O-MAMAs that will make us proud.
It IS hard to believe that Chelsea is old enough to be getting married! Hopefully we (the world) will be able to share in this joyous occasion with the Clintons because it truly feels as if Chelsea is part of our own families.
